Dua Lipa was born in London on 22 August 1995. Her first name 'Dua' is an Albanian word which means 'love' or 'want'. Her parents, who are ethnic Albanians from Kosovo, had left Prishtina in the 1990s. Among the schools she attended was the Sylvia Young Theatre School.
The fifth single from the album, 'Lost in Your Light' was released on 21 April 2017 and features Miguel. 'New Rules' was released on 7 July 2017 as the sixth single from the album and reached number one on the UK Singles Chart, becoming the first number-one single on the chart for Lipa.

Dua Lipa’s highly anticipated self-titled debut album features guest appearances from Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Miguel. The lyrical themes revolve around her personal views of love, rising above, sex and self-empowerment. This Deluxe Editiom expanded with five bonus tracks.

Originally slated for release last September and then again for February, rising British-Albanian singer Dua Lipa delayed her debut album in part to include some “exciting collaborations”. Presumably she was referring not only to the presence of R&B smoothie Miguel but Chris Martin, with whom she duets on Homesick, a tearjerky piano ballad that pleasingly mixes her smoky mid-range vocal with Martin’s crooning. While that isn’t exactly the slick, Capital FM-ready synth-pop she’s best known for, you can see why Lipa held out. Being that she is a young female singer trying to stand out among the glut of artists ploughing similar furrows, Martin’s presence does add clout to proceedings – albeit of the John Lewis ad kind.

Elsewhere, she’s doing what she does best: New Rules and Hotter Than Hell are infused with EDM and tropical house without sounding too consciously trend-chasing, while Blow Your Mind (Mwah) is an unapologetically in-your-face three minutes of pop that is strong and stylish. Despite a few generic offerings (No Goodbyes is mostly just the singer breathily uttering the words “don’t go back” on loop), this is a solid pop debut that is high on summery nonchalance.

Dua Lipa was born in London on 22 August 1995. Her first name 'Dua' is an Albanian word which means 'love' or 'want'. She moved with her family to Kosovo in 2008, the year the country declared its independence from Serbia. At the age of 15, she moved back to London and lived with friends, because she wanted to build a career in music. She began working as a model at age 16. Lipa grew up listening to her father, the Kosovan rock singer Dukagjin Lipa, sing. At the age of 14 she began posting covers of her favourite songs by artists such as Christina Aguilera and Nelly Furtado on YouTube.
In 2015 Dua Lipa began working on her debut album for Warner Bros. Records. In August 2015 she released her first single 'New Love', produced by Emile Haynie and Andrew Wyatt. She released her second single 'Be the One,' written by Lucy 'Pawws' Taylor, in October 2015. Dua Lipa has said that 'Be the One is the only song on my album I haven't written .. [but] I couldn't not take it, it's my favourite thing'. Dua Lipa describes her musical style as 'dark pop'. On 30 November 2015, she was revealed as one of the acts on the 'BBC Sound of..2016' long list. Her first tour in the UK and Europe began in January 2016.
